Freeman Beauty Infusion Cleansing Clay Mask in Charcoal + Probiotics is crafted to go deep in your pores and pull out those nasty oils and toxins with an activated charcoal. The clay mask formula is enhanced with probiotics to help encourage a clear and balanced complexion without drying it out too much.
Here’s the lowdown on face masks. You can’t just pick one up and expect it to feel perfect on your skin. The reason there are so many face masks out there is because everyone’s skin is different. Which leads me to my next point — know your skin type or you may face some discomfort (no pun intended).
Personal Experience
I usually identify my skin as a combination type of oilier and dryer parts. So when following the instructions for this clay mask, I didn’t take this into account. I applied generously, covering my whole face. Initially, putting on the mask felt great. I would compare it to face painting– literally. But I soon realized this wasn’t what my face had in mind for the night. I couldn’t leave it on for more than 10 minutes before the itching started. At first, I thought this might be a part of the “hardening” effect of the clay on my face, but it came to the point where I had to wash it off with mild discomfort.
Afterwards, I felt very dried out and had to double moisturize. The charcoal in face masks is known to leave red patches, but should fade within 10 to 15 minutes, which mine did.
Recommendation
My recommendation: patch test! Your skin might fall into a certain type, but in the end, it’s going to react differently to products even if it says “all” skin types or “Great for _____ skin type!” Trying out a small portion on the neck area is a good place to start. If you don’t see/feel a reaction there, odds are your face should be able to withstand that new product!
I did not expect a reaction from my first clay mask experience, especially with combination skin. However, I would retry Freeman Beauty’s Infusion Cleansing Clay Mask on the more oiler parts of my face, like my T-zone (forehead, nose and chin).

Our Influencer Relations Intern, Sofia’s experience with the clay mask resulted in softer skin. She did however have a similar discomfort with the tightness of the mask. Our Video Intern, Adriana’s experience with the same mask left her dried out but feeling better with a moisturizer afterwards.
